You can make a secure online donation through our Donate page or button. Every gift – big or small – directly supports local youth by providing equipment, scholarships, and program resources. How can I volunteer?
Volunteers are vital to the success of our programs. You don’t have to be a golf pro to help – just bring a willingness to encourage and support young people. Opportunities include assisting on the course, helping with events, and lending a hand in the office. Visit our Volunteer page (under Employment > Coach or Volunteer) or contact us to learn more and apply.
How are classes structured?
Each session blends golf instruction with life skills education. Our trained coaches incorporate First Tee’s core values—like respect, perseverance, and integrity – into every lesson, so kids learn lessons they can carry far beyond the course.
What are the First Tee core values?
The nine core values we teach and model are: honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy, and judgment. These values are woven into all aspects of our programming.
What is your cancellation and refund policy?
If you cancel more than 7 days before the first day of your registered session, you will receive a full refund of your program fee, minus a $5 processing fee. No refunds will be given for cancellations made within 7 days of the session start date. There are no refunds or credits for missed or sick days, and we do not prorate for missed classes. All refund requests must be submitted by email to [email protected] – no exceptions.
Can First Tee – Sarasota/Manatee cancel a class?
Yes. We reserve the right to change the specifics of a class or activity, or to cancel a class altogether. We operate at the discretion of the golf courses that generously allow us to use their facilities. Some locations will close due to inclement weather, which may require us to cancel class.
Will there be make-up classes for canceled sessions?
We will make every effort to schedule make-up classes for canceled sessions, but please note that due to weather, daylight, and scheduling constraints, make-ups are not guaranteed. If four or more classes in an 8- or 9-week session are canceled due to weather, we will issue a credit to your account.
Can I transfer my registration to another date?
Yes. All transfer requests are subject to availability. There is no fee for transferring dates, as long as the request is made at least 2 days before the program start date and within the same season. We allow a maximum of two (2) transfers per participant. After that, no further refunds or credits will be issued.
What is your weather policy?
Program status updates will be posted on our website and Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/TFTSM) one hour before the start of each session, if necessary. The Executive or Program Director will also send a text message update.
- Programs will continue unless weather conditions compromise participant safety.
- Classes are held even with light showers or varying temperatures.
- Classes may be canceled if forecasts predict heavy, persistent rain or thunder and lightning.
- At all times, classes will be suspended immediately if thunder or lightning is present in the area.
- Some facilities have indoor spaces where we can continue life skills activities safely during poor weather.
How do you ensure participant safety?
Safety is our top priority. All staff and volunteers undergo background checks and receive training in First Tee’s policies and procedures. We also follow golf course safety protocols, including weather-related precautions.
What should my child bring to class?
Please make sure participants arrive prepared for the weather. We recommend bringing:
- Sunscreen
- Water bottle
- Hat or visor
- Jacket or sweatshirt
Tip: On hot days, wear light colors to stay cooler; on cooler days, dark colors can help keep you warmer.
